I am tired of the default XP themes. At work I tried to install WindowBlinds but McAfee didn’t like it. I had to uninstall WindowBlinds so that I can continue to work. In protest I changed the theme to Windows Classic and turned off theme service. I tinkered a bit with colors and saved it to a theme file. Here is what I came up with.

Classic Theme

I completed my first WindowBlinds theme. Almost all images were created using Paint.NET.

If you have WindowBlinds, you can download the theme here. The theme itself is free.

You can buy WindowBlinds from StarDock, if you don’t have it. There is also a 30 day trial version of WindowBlinds available. Check it out.

Also, please let me know what you think by posting comments over there and rating it.

This is still work in progress and it has been work in progress for a long time. If you have comments, please let me know.

I enjoyed the benefits of Vista’s Aero interface on Windows XP long before the first Vista Beta was out using the WindowBlinds. Many of the Vista’s eye candy can be traced to the WindowBlinds, not Mac. When Vista was released Microsoft showed off some stuff developed by StarDock. According to StarDock, these Dream scenes were given to Microsoft for free. But if you go to the WinCustomize site, you will see a bunch of people calling StarDock greedy for charging for these dream scenes. These people think that all these stuff just pops out of nowhere and costs nothing to make and maintain. Some of them claim that the traffic generated will generate enough money. That could be true if your site designed towards generating money solely from ads.

These companies exist for making money. Why do people expect things to be free? Are these people willing to work for free? Or may be these things should be outsourced and people in those third world countries need not be paid! Many people have this notion that software should be free. The coffee you drink need not be free. What is the difference? You cannot feel the software in your hand or mouth.

I do believe in community based free software and other things. I do not expect for profit companies to give out free stuff. If they do, you are paying for it somewhere else. They are the true parasitic companies. And they are not accountable for anything because they give you free stuff. Someone would say, if they are not good, don’t use it. Well, you can do that for those other companies that charge you as well.

Look at WordPress. Are they making money out of all those traffic coming to this site? I guess not. But their work may be getting them business elsewhere where they get paid. So since they make money elsewhere should we call them greedy when they charge for those upgrades?

Some interesting points from leeches:

  • If Microsoft showed off StarDock content, StarDock must get money from Microsoft and give it free.
  • Microsoft should pay for the bandwidth used for downloading content from StarDock site because it is used on their OS.
  • Most art does not cost anything.
  • You are greedy if you give away 6 skins free and there is that you COULD buy for $5.

If they are right:

  • Adobe Photoshop will come with free art.
  • XBox 360 will come with free games.
  • Game makers should not charge because Microsoft showed them off during demo.
  • Game makers should not charge because they already paid $400 for XBox 360.
  • Not everyone who bought a Premium Xbox 360 can afford $5 arcade game from xbox live.

One of these whiners claim to be a physician. I would be scared to go to such a dick head. I am pretty sure he is not a physician. But if he is, we have a big problem.

Test your comprehension here.
