I am not a big fan of Microsoft. But I also know that the alternatives look good only for fanboys. I like Linux because it is free and use it for servers. But for my workstations I prefer Windows and Windows only. Mac OS is not going to be on my radar any time soon. Unless they go completely open and follow standards in hardware. No, I am not paying $100+ every year for things that should have been just patches. I am not paying exorbitant amount of money for hardware. Good Windows or Linux hardware costs less that $500 these days.

I think I can get a really cheap laptop may be Atom based and install Windows 7 beta on it. Total cost could be $300-$400. May be even less?

But if you are a Mac fan boy, read this opinion on reasons to skip Windows 7 beta. I haven’t read it. Just saw the short version in the rss reader.

The Windows 7 blog has a new post on Vista UAC. At the end of it says “we have heard feedback both positive and negative”.

Vista Hater: “Positive? I don’t know if anyone EVER will have any positive feedback on that creepy feature.”

Someone in the crowd: “I do. I like the fact that my kids are not clicking on some link and it installs some spy ware.”

Vista Hater: “Your feedback doesn’t count. Moreover, there are other programs out there that can take care of such things for you.”

Someone: “They may be out there. But I have no time or knowledge to find and install those stuff.”
