Here is a sample of the speed at which I am able to download. This is not directly connected to the router. This is a wireless connection to the router.

In the past few weeks I have noticed that when I try to download stuff from xbox live market place or play online, the experience is becoming a bit slow. YouTube watching has become terribly slow. It definitely is not the overall speed that is causing problem. How do I know? Look at the image below. I just took that speed test now. It is not even connected directly to the router. It is over a wireless connection that says just “good”.

So my question is, is Comcast throatling sites like YouTube and Xbox live? Are you a gamer and experience speed issues with Comcast while playing online?

Here is the ExtremeTech Opinion by Jim Lynch. He completely got rid of it. I did not. I am subscribed to the basics + HD tuner that cost me $20 a month. I watch news in the morning and sometimes in the evening. I also watch some public television at times. I don’t need a DVR for watching news!

A lot of people say that Internet applications should be ad supported. Why not cable TV programs that are filled with ads are not free? Sometimes the ads fill  up to 50% of the total program time. If you argue that the money goes to cable provider, then it should be a fixed fee, right. But it is not. The more ad filled channels you subscribe to, the more you pay for it. May be you are paying for the time you cannot allot to the channels because you have too many channels. I started seeing more soft ads on public television (at least the ones from San Francisco) too.

Jim Lynch likes HBO. Me not. He likes it because it has less of common garbage you see on other channels. I don’t like it because I don’t agree with contents on HBO. Just different tastes.

Lloyd Case interjects and says there are great programs on standard television like “Sarah Connor Chronicles”. What?

I am on Internet, Xbox 360, PS3 and NetFlix most of the time. All of them have less intrusive ads or no ads at all. I knew cable TV is a dying breed like land line phones. Just a matter of time. Cable companies will be just ISP’s then.

Oh, when Jim canceled his cable, his Internet fee went up from $45 to $59. That $15 is all you need to get the basic cable. So, if you have Internet from Comcast, it doesn’t make sense to completely cancel the cable TV. You don’t save anything. At least you can watch news while having breakfast.
